I would first like to apologize if I cause offense to many Mayweather fans in the forum or if I, by some mean, exhibit some bias. To be quite genuine, that is not my intention. My mere rationale is only to ask a question and contemplate on the facades of Mayweather’s sportsmanlike actions and how this have significantly influenced the integrity, virtues, and righteousness of boxing, the sport I truly love and feel affection for.
Floyd usually compliments fighters after beating them, but the damage has been done in my opinion, especially to the reputation of the boxer he just faced. It is no secret that Mayweather Jr. loves money and he expresses this publicly that it is his primary motivation to box. However, Mayweather Jr. has made many serious allegations or downright insulting remarks that may truly hurt boxing’s merits and reputation. Although this may make sense in the financial perspective, some of the remarks he has made has been vibrant to the public judgment and to some extent, it is creating deformation to the sport.
Floyd Mayweather Jr Quotes:
"There are no good white guys in boxing"
"Oscar De La Hoya is a pssy. I beat boxers and they end up wearing fishnets afterwards"
"He ain’t nowhere near my level [Zab Judah]. Maybe one day he’ll get off them undercards."
“Miguel Cotto is a punching bag. He knows he can’t beat me.”
"Ricky Hatton is my prison btch"
“I don’t know who Paul Williams is."
"Shane Mosley is a cheater who is still probably using steroids"
"Arturo Gatti is fake. He’s a C+ fighter and they put him in there against C- fighters."
"Pacquiao did well selling because he had a dance partner in Cotto, but I did it on my own" (Disrespect to Marquez)
"Ricky Hatton ain’t nothing but a fat man. I’m going to punch him in his beer belly when I see him."
"Ricky Hatton is a coward"
"Of course I’m better than Roy Jones Jr. Why would you even ask that?"
"Ricardo Mayorga is a bum"
"Would I fight Junior Witter? Who is he? Is he a boxer?"
"Larry Merchant dont know nothing about boxing"
"Brian Kenny is a man of many things but a master of nothing"
"MMA is created by whites guys who aint good enough to make it to boxing"
"Emmanuel Stewart is an Uncle Tom" (Uncle Tom means blacks who are submissive to whites)
"Im the best fighter ever, I respect Ali and Robinson but Im the best ever"
“What makes Ali and Robinson great, just because they fought a hundred fights, this is the payperview era”
"HBO is bias against black boxers, they talk about Kelly Pavlik, a white fighter, like he’s the second coming or they go crazy over Manny Pacquiao. But I’m a black fighter. Is it racial? Absolutely. They praise white fighters, they praise Hispanic fighters, whatever. But black fighters, they never praise.”
"Philippines makes the best illegal supplements"
Addition:
Floyd Mayweather Sr: “Mosley fought mostly Mexicans, he hasn’t fought a black boxer, he isn’t good.” (Senior said this, but Floyd agreed)
Again, thrash talking is good for the sport because boxing is a business, using race cards, disrespecting all time greats, and accusing people falsely without proof is truly razing the righteous principles and the ethical virtues of the sport.
Thumbs up to all!
Great answers, I am very impressed with some of the answers even from Mayweather fans!
@chris eubank, I didnt praise Manny on this question nor the question is even about him, you are free to answer my question on what it represents and I will show you respect whether if I agree or not.
please do the same, thanks.
jon, no need to apologize. i have never once defended floyd mayweather for any of the more outrageous statements he has made. i practice mixed martial arts myself, and some of his statements regarding that sport are ignorant. he called gatti a "club fighter", yet after he dominated him, all of a sudden arturo is a "great fighter with heart", or something to that effect. manny steward is well respected in boxing, and i’m sure he’s done a lot for the african american community, so it’s ridiculous to call him an uncle tom.
that being said, i don’t look up to floyd for anything other than his boxing skills, and he, nor any other athlete, is a role model to me. boxers are not naturally the most educated, articulate people in the world! i am even more disgusted by someone like kobe bryant, who raped a woman and is still adored around the world and is worshipped by fans in los angeles, or guys like ben roethlisberger, who is as sleazy as they come, or tito ortiz, who beat up his 98 pound ex porn star "baby mama". floyd is arrogant, has a big mouth, but he certainly sells tickets and is a great boxer. it will bode manny well to not let mayweather into his head any further as this will already be the most difficult fight pacquiao will ever have. there’s something about an athlete who comes off as articulate and caring, yet is being a thug "behind the scenes" that irritates me even more. with mayweather, there is a certain "what you see is what you get" attitude. he’s not trying to be something he’s not.
