This event was to be the third meeting between Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard and their second meeting for the UFC Lightweight Championship. The two met earlier this year at UFC 125: Resolution with the fight ending in a split draw, and Edgar retaining his title. Their first encounter at UFC Fight Night: Florian vs. Lauzon saw Maynard win via unanimous decision. It was later announced on May 9 that injuries to both forced the fight to be removed from the card. Edgar suffered broken ribs, while Maynard has suffered a knee injury. Anthony Pettis was originally contacted about replacing Edgar, but Maynard’s injury prevented the possible replacement. On February 9, it was rumored that Thiago Silva had been forced from his bout with Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and could be replaced by Rashad Evans. Silva stated that he was not injured and was looking forward to his bout with Jackson. Instead, information surfaced that Silva may have failed a pre-fight drug screening at UFC 125, which could result in his suspension. It was then announced that the proposed Rashad Evans bout was never close to being signed, and that Rampage would face Matt Hamill. Former Sengoku Middleweight Champion Jorge Santiago has confirmed he has signed a contract with the UFC and will return to face Brian Stann at this event. On April 20th, Brad Pickett was forced to withdraw from his bout with Miguel Torres. Demetrious Johnson, who was set to fight Renan Barao on the undercard, has stepped in as Pickett’s replacement while Barao will face Cole Escovedo. On April 27th, Norifumi Yamamoto was forced out of his bout with Chris Cariaso due to injury. Michael McDonald, who was scheduled to take on Nick Pace at UFC 133, has stepped in as Yamamoto’s replacement Cody McKenzie was set to fight Bart Palaszewski in this event, but an injury forced him out of the card. UFC president Dana White later announced that Gleison Tibau would step up to replace McKenzie. Palaszewski was also injured and replaced by return UFC veteran Rafaello Oliveira. UFC 130 will feature two preliminary fights live on Spike TV, and that the remainder of the preliminary bouts will stream on Facebook. This will mark the second time the UFC has held an event in Sydney, following the sell-out UFC 110 in 2010. Tickets for UFC Fight Club members went on sale on December 14, 2010. UFC 127 sold out moments after going on public sale on December 16, 2010, selling faster than tickets for UFC 110, and making it the fastest-selling event, along with UFC 115, in UFC history. ESPN in U.K. will air the Ross Pearson vs. Spencer Fisher fight, which was confirmed by Jon Anik on ESPN MMA Live. Ion Television will air the Pearson/Fisher, Te-Huna/Gustafsson and Ring/Fukuda preliminary bouts[4], while the Perosh/Blackledge and Zhang/Rheinhardt preliminary bouts will stream on the UFC’s official Facebook page. On February 9, it was announced that a knee injury had forced Carlos Condit out of his bout with Chris Lytle. Condit was replaced by promotional newcomer Brian Ebersole. The seminar will consist of grappling, striking, and MMA training, and the team of instructors will be made up of world class MMA fighters such as WEC lightweight contender Cowboy Donald Cerrone, UFC fighters Aaron Riley and The Filthy Mauler Tom Lawlor, former TUF competitor and EliteXC headliner Seth Petruzelli, Bellator fighter Jorge Gamebred Masvidal, and 2009 Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC) champion and recent Shine Fights signee Braulio Estima. In addition, 50/50 Jiu-Jitsu owners Ryan Hall and Seph Smith will be teaching, and a kids seminar will be educated by the well-respected John Simons. All these great athletes will be donating their time, and merchandise will be auctioned off, with all proceeds going towards Haiti relief. MMA for Charity is an organization conceptualized by MMA Institute Head Trainer Rick McCoy and Eric Callahan in order for the sport he loves to have an opportunity to respond to the tragedy in Haiti. When I saw the footage of all the suffering going on by the men, women, and children in Haiti, I just felt in my gut that I needed to do something, explained McCoy. I spoke with some of my associates, and things quickly came together to form the organization.
